Tried & Tested Hair Extensions
So we all yearn for thicker, longer hair… I know every time I watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians, or a hair commercial, I find myself asking? How can I achieve that? Only to then notice the small print in the bottom left hand corner, where it states “Styled with Natural Hair Extensions”. So even top supermodels need help!
So I have decided to do some research and lift the lid and share the secret with you all.
Below are my top 3 hair extension ranges.
1. Hairaisers Blue Label Hair Extensions: 100% Human Hair (NO GLUE)
These extensions are weft extensions and are attached by braiding small sections of your hair and sowing the extension to the braid. There is no glue required so this is by far the greatest and safest option. Its quick, takes no longer than 30 minutes to complete a full head and the results last for over 10 weeks. You only need to get your extensions re-tighten as and when you feel necessary. There is over 85 different shades to choose from and over 5 different lengths available. The cost is also varied, prices start from £35.00 per pack of hair and £10 for each row of braids. I have been using hairaiser extensions for over 5 years and you just can’t beat them as you can still wash and colour your hair as normal.
2. Great Lengths – Individual Hair Extensions: 100% Human Hair (GLUE)
There is no doubt that Great Lengths are the leaders in individual hair extensions. I was lucky enough to have Great Lengths extensions during my Miss England days. The extensions are applied using heat only as each individual extension has already got the glued applied to the ends. Your hair is sectioned off and each individual extension is applied by hand. This can be a time consuming process, a full head can take up to 4-7 hours depending on your hair type. My only criticism is that when you want to wear your hair up, you may be able to see the bonds of glue. I also feel the removal process can be a little painful and damaging to your hair as they use acetone to remove the glue. All in all, the results are good and long lasting providing you take care of your extensions. Prices start from £300.00, so it can be costly and you need to have them refitted every 4-6 weeks.
3. Clip In Extensions: Synthetic Hair (CLIPS)
Ok, so it has to be said that clip in extensions are the quickest and utmost fool proof way of having fabulous, celebrity styled hair. You can even purchase clip in extensions from Boots, how more convenient can you get? All you have to do is choose the nearest shade to your hair colour, and clip in. The only issue is that the extensions are almost always synthetic hair so you cannot use heat or treat the extension like human hair, therefore you may need to replace after a few times of wear. However, when you can buy them as cheap as £5.00, who am I to complain. These are best for a one off occasion or if you have a small budget.
